Being conscious of one's impact on the environment is no easy task. Nor is it fun. If we truly paid attention to the small daily acts that make up our life and noted how they affected our planet we would never leave the house. Understandable why we don't pay attention then.
Here at Eco Bidets we think there is something than we can and should be paying attention to. In doing so, solving the problem entirely.
We have a toilet paper problem. The problem being of course, that everybody poos. This equates to a lot of toilet paper being produced and used. With net population growth expected until at least 2050 this is a growing problem.
The US uses over 32 billion rolls of toilet paper every year. That's 15 million trees, 473,587,500,000 gallons (1.7 trillion litres) of water and over 250,000 tonnes of chlorine used as bleach. If we break this down to the individual level it makes pretty grim reading. The US is home to 320 million people. 32 billion/320 million = 100 rolls per person/per year.
A single roll of toilet paper requires 15 gallons of water, 1.3 kilowatt/hours (KWh) of electricity, and 0.680kg's of wood.
Multiply this by 100 rolls and we have the environmental impact of one person's annual use of toilet paper: 1,500 gallons of water (5,678 litres), 130 kilowatt/hours (KWh) of electricity, and 6.8kg's of wood.
And that's only 12 months from a lifetime of bathroom use..
Average life expectancy of most developed countries is close to 80 years old. If we discount the nappy years and late retirement years and assume that we look after our own ablutions for 75 years: This equates to..
425,850 litres of water, 9,750 kilowatt/hours (KWh) and 510kg's of wood
There has got to be a better way, right?
Our solution? stop wiping and start cleaning with water.
These figures are why this company exists. We believe we can make a real difference to the state of the world just by making a small change to our bathroom behavior.
Small actions repeated every day make a big difference.
we'd love it if you joined us in our efforts.
